This is the first detailed monographic, phytosociological treatment in English on all the plant communities of Hungary. In its introductory part, first the basic phytosociological terms are explained, then an overview is presented on the main geographic features of the country including climate, topography, geology, soil, and hydrological characteristics, the origin of the flora, and the postglacial history and regional development of the vegetation.
